Privacy policy
Last updated: a placeholder date — set this when you publish. This is a plain-language draft, not a substitute for review by a lawyer qualified in your jurisdiction before real launch.
Who this is
Reading Trainer is operated by [operator name]. Questions about this policy or your data go to [contact email].
What we collect
If you use the app without an account, none of this reaches us — your progress stays in your browser's local storage and we never see it. If you sign in, we store:
- Your email address, to sign you in and identify your account.
- Reading session records: which passage, when, how long it took, your words-per-minute, your comprehension score and its breakdown by question type, and any free-text recall you typed about what you read.
- Scheduled retest dates, book reading progress, and your settings (recall depth, comprehension threshold, reading surface preferences).
We do not collect payment details, because the app does not take payments yet. We do not run analytics or advertising scripts, so there is nothing here to disclose about those — this section will be updated if that changes.
Why we collect it
Solely to run the product you signed up for: to know it's you when you sign in, to sync your reading progress across devices, and to compute the comprehension and speed metrics the app shows you. Nothing here is used to build an advertising profile, and none of it is sold.
Who else sees it
Your data is stored in a database we run, hosted with a managed Postgres provider that stores it on our behalf and does not use it for its own purposes. Sending you a sign-in link may involve an email delivery provider (currently Resend, when configured) — they see the email address the link is sent to and nothing else about your reading activity. We do not share your data with advertisers, data brokers, or anyone else, and we do not sell it.
Cookies
Signing in sets one cookie that keeps you signed in. There are no advertising or analytics cookies at this time.
How long we keep it
For as long as your account exists. Deleting your account, from the account page, permanently deletes every record described above — there is no retention period or backup we keep it in afterward.
Your rights
If you're in the EU or EEA, the GDPR gives you the right to access, correct, export, and delete your personal data, and to object to how it's used. The account page gives you a full export and permanent deletion directly, without needing to ask us first. For anything else, or if you're outside the EU/EEA and these rights work differently where you are, contact [contact email].
Children
This service is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and, for a material change, tell you directly rather than relying on you to check back.
